One of the reasons for this increase is cryptocurrency mining, which relies on electricity generated from burning fossil fuels and electronic waste. Its impact on the environment, as a shared heritage of humanity, undeniably undermines the human right to enjoy a healthy environment. On the one hand, the potential for international organized crime, due to the anonymity of cryptocurrency transactions, tightens the connection of this issue with other branches of international law. Although green cryptocurrencies, such as Bitgreen, can herald a different form of trade, halt paper currency printing, and prevent the cutting down of thousands of trees, there are structural and normative weaknesses in drafting a treaty to impose restrictions on cryptocurrency mining. Given the long road ahead to achieve the goals of such a treaty, it seems necessary to manage this slow and less tangible crisis by resorting to existing customs and principles of international environmental law, while hoping for the actions of states at the national level (such as the imposition of taxes on cryptocurrency mining by the U.S. government). At the same time, we must acknowledge this phenomenon and take steps toward regulating the extraction and use of cryptocurrencies. تولید گازهای گلخانه‌ای درسال۲۰۲۱، به سطح قبل از دوران همه‌گیری کرونا بازگشته است و انتظار می‌رود انتشار گازهای گلخانه‌ای در سال جاری ۴.۹ درصد افزایش یابد. یکی از دلایل این افزایش، استخراج رمزارزها با تکیه بر برق مصرفی حاصل از سوزانده‌شدن سوخت‌های فسیلی و زباله‌های‌الکترونیکی حاصل از آن است. هرچند استخراج رمزارزهای سبز همچون کاردانو ،سولارکوین و بیت‌گرین می‌تواند نویدبخش شکل متفاوت و امنی از تجارت، توقف چاپ ‌اسکناس و جلوگیری از قطع هزاران‌هزار درخت باشد. حق داشتن محیط‌زیست‌سالم از حقوق اصلی هر انسان است که مرتبط با حق ‌اولیه‌ای همچون حیات است واکنون با این استخراج‌ها، بالارفتن دمای کره‌زمین و به‌دنبال آن تسریع روند تغییرات‌اقلیمی مورد تهدید قرارگرفته‌است و با درنظرگرفتن ضعف‌های ساختاری و هنجاری برای تدوین معاهده در خصوص اعمال محدودیت براستخراج رمزارزها و راه طولانی پیش رو برای نیل به اهداف این معاهده، بنظر بایستی با توسل به عرف و اصول حقوق‌بین‌الملل‌محیط‌زیست موجود و چشم امید به عملکرد دولت‌ها در سطح ملی(مانند وضع مالیات بر استخراج رمزارزها توسط دولت آمریکا) این بحران دیرزی و خزنده که کمتر ملموس است را مدیریت کرد. https://jplsq.ut.ac.ir/article_96754_5cdaad908e9b6bac9d3e55684421c316.pdf
