Abstract

Various political, economic, social and cultural theories share the common point that a revolution causes huge changes in political, social, economic and cultural relations of a society. In the 1979 Iranian revolution, three political discourses were active namely, Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic and none-Islamic leftism and the centrist right, each of which had their own unique interpretation of the concept of fundamental freedoms. This subject became the dominant issue in the first post-revolution constitution adopted in 1979. Although the Islamic jurisprudence discourse - which was dominant in the first decade after revolution - was affected by the liberal democratic discourse it was something different. It had a profound impact on the constitutional legislator’s attitude to the concept of fundamental freedoms which can be analyzed on the basis of author-centric hermeneutics.
