Background and Aim: Physicians' tariff violations are among the important challenges in the health system, and the lack of effective sanction in this regard can lead to the spread of violations . The purpose of the present article is to examine the regulatory mechanisms for compliance with medical tariffs in Iran and Canada.
Method: The present article was written using a descriptive-analytical method.
Findings: In Iran and Canada, multiple mechanisms, such as criminal and administrative sanctions, have been established for violations of approved medical tariffs.
Conclusion: In Iran, despite the existence of multiple mechanisms, their dispersion across various regulation and the in effectiveness of enforcement measure have rendered the existing mechanisms practically incapable of providing the necessary deterrence. Meanwhile, even regulatory Sanctions have greater deterrent capacity, face serious challenges in terms of impartiality due to the existence of conflicts of interest in the investigating regulatory authorities. In Canada, Sanctions are effective and the they are such that impartiality in the process of an adjudicating tariff violations is ensured. It is suggested that in Iran, Sanction for tariff violations be strengthened and the composition of the enforcement authorities be regulated in a way that eliminates the suspicion of bias.
